As of March 27, 2015 the State of New York is requiring that all prescriptions be sent electronically. The Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing (I-STOP) Act was passed in June of 2012 and mandates that controlled (Schedule II-V drugs) and non-controlled substances must be electronically prescribed.
Mandatory e-Prescribing in New York State
As of 10/20/2014, approximately 50% of all New York State pharmacies have reached technology compliance to particpate in e-Prescribing of controlled substances. As we have been testing this new technology we have concluded that most major corporate pharmacies including Walgreens, Duane Reade and CVS are among that 50%. At this time, most other pharmacies are able to accept e-Prescriptions for non-controlled substances. Over the next few months we will begin to impliment new procedures so that we can remain compliant with the new laws. At this time, we are able to e-Prescribe to New York State pharmacies only.
As this new system is still in beta format for our office, we are not requiring that our clients do anything at this time. More information will be provided as it becomes available to us.
If you are booking a telephone appointment, we are now able to send your prescriptions electronically. You will no longer be required to pick up paper prescriptions at the office provided that your pharmacy accepts e-Prescriptions for controlled substances. Please contact your pharmacy to determine availability.
